NPD Sales for February 2017: For Honor Tops Charts in US

Video game sales down year-over-year.

The NPD Group’s February 2017 report is in with the top ten best-selling games in the United States revealed and it seems Ubisoft’s For Honor has won out.

The second biggest selling title was Resident Evil 7: Biohazard in second place followed by Grand Theft Auto 5, NBA 2K17 and Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare. Nioh was the only other new release for the month in ninth place (though this didn’t include digital sales).

It was also revealed that game sales were down year-over-year by 21 percent, from $918.7 million to $724 million, primarily because of a 30 percent in video game hardware sales compared to the same period last year. Software sales were down by 14 percent from $402 million to $344.2 million.

However, as per NPD analyst Mat Piscatella, “3DS unit sales were up 77 percent versus January 2017 driven by the 3DS New Galaxy Style model and the 3DS Limited Pikachu Yellow model.”
