Sony recently revealed and released a very limited run of PlayStation 4 consoles that were themed to look like the original PlayStation, in order to commemorate the twentieth anniversary of the system and brand. As expected, the systems sold out almost as soon as they went up for sale, and buyers were forced to go to resellers like eBay to buy them from scalpers if they wanted to get one of their own.
And s**t, did the scalpers scalp them. On eBay, one 20th Anniversary PS4 sold for $20,100, while another went for $15,100, which is just a teensy bit higher than the $500 that Sony was selling these systems for.
Still, that’s crazy and insane demand, clearly- I’m shocked to see people spending that kind of obscene money (you could pay for a year of college with that, for example, or buy a new car). Still, it is a veritable piece of gaming history, so there is that.
