During the recent Nintendo Direct, Capcom confirmed that its upcoming hack-and-slash action-adventure game Onimusha: Way of the Sword will be coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 on the same day as its release on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S – on September 25th. The announcement was made with a short trailer showcasing some of its platform-exclusive features.
Alongside core Onimusha: Way of the Sword gameplay features like parrying, deflecting, and the presence of Oni Armaments, Capcom has also revealed that, thanks to the JoyCon 2 controllers, players can make use of motion controls to execute attacks. While the full list of attacks and combos possible through motion controls wasn’t revealed, the trailer provided a few looks at the feature in action, like waving a JoyCon 2 controller from side to side for horizontal slashes, or up and down for vertical attacks.
The release date for Onimusha: Way of the Sword was revealed over the weekend with a trailer. The announcement was accompanied by the release of a free playable demo that provides players with a taste of what the upcoming title has to offer.
The trailer itself showcased protagonist Musashi taking on a particularly powerful Genma in a castle in the mountains. The Genma, revealed to be the legendary Shuten-dōji, gives Musashi quite a bit of trouble thanks to his ferocious attacks. The trailer also showed us how Musashi can, when brought to the brink of death, transform into the legendary Onimusha.
Onimusha: Way of the Sword is going to be the first entry in the long-dormant franchise after 20 years, with the previous mainline entry – Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams – having come out all the way back in 2006.
