In reply to Bao Nim. Do your friends ever tell you that you are blatantly wrong? Most games with in app purchases arent that unplayable as a free game... Ive played dozens without ever needing to spend a dime. Perhaps your presumptions are incorrect.

In reply to blindexecutioner. Exactly the same, I was so ready to throw my money at this game but shady bullshit after shady bullshit ruined it for me. As a rule I don't even touch games that have lootboxes anymore because clearly the only way to get publishers to learn is to refuse to even buy the base game.

The worst thing is most game critics won’t criticize this behavior. All of these games that jam loot boxes down our throats have high eighties on metacritic from the majority of high profile game reviewers.

I skipped the shadow of Mordor due to this. I have no interest in these games at all. There are so many other good games it really doesn’t even phase me to skip them either. I was excited due to the first game but lost interest the second I learned of the money grab.

I refuse to buy or install any mobile games that have in-app purchases. I explain to my friends that those games are tuned to being unfair so you spend money, and list the all-upfront-cost games I’m playing, to encourage them to switch. I’m happy enough to vote with my dollars in skipping console and PC games over the same thing. Plus, for PC gaming, there are sometimes cracks and trainers that will get around the greedy money grabs. I was happy when Apple and Google added “has in-app purchases” to the description of apps in their app store. Today I am thrilled with OpenCritic, for adding this to their game information too.
