Overkill’s The Walking Dead Delayed

Now releasing in 2017.

Telltale Games may have hogged all the glory when it comes to making a quality game based on the Walking Dead license, but there are more stories to be told in that universe, and the potential for some very unique games to be made- such as, for example, a cerebral, narrative driven shooter. A shooter in the Walking Dead universe could be pretty good- one only need look at just how great The Last of Us was for proof.

Overkill was working on one such game – a co-op first person shooter based in the Walking Dead universe – and it was due to launch later this year. Now it won’t be- now it will be releasing some time next year, as Starbreeze announced today that the game had been delayed to 2017. The delay will help “cement the game as a tent pole product for the next decade to come,” according to the publisher.

It’s a shame, and while I would ordinarily have said something along the lines of delays being good as long as they help the development of a game, I’m not too sure with this one- see, we still haven’t seen a single screenshot from the game yet. We have no idea about what the game is, beyond what we have been told, and without having something tangible to attach it to, it’s hard for me to feel bummed when the game does get delayed. It is also easy for me to suspect that maybe development of this title is not coming along as smoothly as the developers and publishers maybe expected.
