Development

Persona 4: Dancing All Night was announced when Persona 5 and Persona Q: Shadow of The Labrynth were first shown to the public during an event hosted by Atlus.

It was during this event, which was held in Japan, that the game was announced to be a “sound action” title set some six months after the events of Persona 4 and that it would see players taking part in “battle dances” against shadows.

Persona 4: Dancing All Night was originally set to launch at some time in the Fall 2014, but this date slid for unknown reasons. It wasn’t until the Tokyo Game Show in 2014 that the game was announced to be released in 2015, later confirmed to be June 25th 2015.

During the Atlus event in Japan, Persona 4: Dancing All Night was said to be involved in a joint development plan. Originally, the game was being developed by both Atlus and Dingo.

Dingo are famous for their works on the Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA series of Rhythm video games that found massive success both inside and outside Japan. Though as development moved onwards, Dingo was dropped from the project and ceased to have any involvement in the game’s development. Following this, there was a staff reshuffle within the development team.

Given the game’s roots in music, it will see a number of highly respected names returning and joining in on the composition process of the various tracks that will ship with the game. These names include Tetsuya Komuro, of Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie fame and composer Akira Yamaoka, who is known the world over for his work on the Silent Hill video game series soundtracks.

Story

The game is set roughly 4 years after the events that brought Persona 4 to a close. Following this, Rise Kujikawa who was a popular Japanese idol, went back to the entertainment industry and a somewhat celebrity-eqsue lifestyle.
Now, a rumour has been spreading that about a strange video that can only be seen playing on a specific site “at midnight”.

Those who see the video are said to be transported to the “other side” and they will never wake up again. This leads to a number of disappearances from the J-pop group, Kanamin Kitchen. This include’s Rise’s junior idol Kanami Mashita and eventually, Yu Narukami joins Rise to reform the Investigation Team and save the day.

Gameplay

At this time, we don’t have much in the way of facts about gameplay. But it may be accurate to predict that the game may share some similarities with Final Fantasy Theatrhythm. Though with that being said, the teaser trailer, that you can view above, looks more geared towards the control of one character with gameplay being focused on the correct input of button commands when prompted to do so.

We do know that the game is going to feature a large cast of playable characters, including the eight primary members of the investigation team from Persona 4. Persona 4’s Nanako Dojima makes a return alongside the new character Kanami Mashita.
