Pinball FX2: Epic Quest Review

Epic Quest is an RPG themed table for Pinball FX2, and that is quite a weird mix if you ask me. Of course, these RPG mechanics are just for show, and the main attraction is still the pure unadulterated Pinball action. As you already know, the game has plenty of tablets offering different themes, and for me, Epic Quest feels like the most exciting one.

I’m a big Pinball fan and have spent a lot of time playing it, so I was definitely excited to try this table out. You can battle monsters here, and there are plenty of them. The table also has a hero called Max, who can level up depending on how you play, and gain new abilities and armour. Max can keep all these abilities, and on subsequent playthroughs, he will be pretty powerful to handle any creature.

There are two bars near the flippers indicating you and the monster. The monster is near the left flipper and you are on the right flipper, and you have to hit specific targets like shield and smash within a time limit to fight with the monsters. There is a sword ramp on the upper right corner which can also be used to deal damage and is pretty easy to hit.

There are also loots and bonuses, which obviously can be used to equip Max with better things and give him bonuses. It’s pretty self explanatory. These RPG mechanics aren’t implemented that well, and get tiresome after a while, but you have the option of skipping videos which can become really annoying as you keep playing.

Visually the table looks fantastic, with a lot of details everywhere. In fact, when it comes to design, this is my most favourite table. Considering the shallow RPG mechanics, it can get boring pretty fast, but ultimately it’s still Pinball, which means it’s a lot of fun.

The table costs 240 MSP, which is not a very reasonable price when you think about it. If you are on the lookout for a fresh new table for Pinball, then Epic Quest can provide some interesting diversion for a little while.
