PlatinumGames has had a lot of critically-acclaimed titles, but unfortunately, not a lot of them have managed to find a wide audience. While the developer’s last few games have done well, many in their catalog have been financial flops. One of the biggest was The Wonderful 101, an action game directed by Hideki Kamiya that was defined by its colorful heroes, frantic combat, and testing your ability to draw. That game was originally released on the Wii U, and there’s been rumors and teases that the company want to give the title another chance. However, it could be in a different way than expected.
According to GameXplain, the company will look at reviving The Wonderful 101, but it will do so via crowdfunding. They say that the developer will start a Kickstarter to bring it to PS4 and Switch, with other systems possibly being mentioned as stretch goals.
The Wonderful 101 was originally a collaboration between Platinum and Nintendo, so if this rumor ends up being true, it could mean that Nintendo has sold the IP rights to Platinum. PlatinumGames also just launched new website teasing something, which could be related to this. We’ll keep you updated.
