@Ravi Sinha

Make no mistake – this is Sony’s solution for backwards compatibility of
its old PS3 games.

Sony top brass are on record saying the EXACT opposite of your claims here. Had this been backwards compatibility when you put a PS3 disc in your system it would pull up PS Now. Backwards compatibility may still be in the cards for PS4, but certainly I doubt if the priority is there.

@d0x360:disqus

I have 25mb/5mb connection and I didn't really have that many issues with action games. I was surprised how tight the controls felt.

I only tried a couple of games during the free beta months ago. I've only got 20mbps down and 5mbps up. The control latency was very minimal for me when I played Sniper Ghost Warrior 2, but I have my console hard wired directly to my router. The other game I tried was Shadow of Colossus, and that was unplayable due to the constant buffering. Again that was months ago before they started charging for it, so I'm not sure how it would perform for me now. Is your console hard wired to your router?

Despite being highly skeptical due to having used on live I gave PS now and honest try. I rented 3 games a couple weeks apart. I was playing on my home connection which is 130mbps downstream and 30mbps upstream, very low latency as well due to the fact that I live only a mile from a main Comcast interconnect.

Despite all of that the latency on control was just too high for it to ever be enjoyable. I played killzone 3 and the delay was low enough that the game was "playable" but at the same time high enough that it was overly difficult and insanely frustrating. Aiming was incredibly hard. I also rented grid 3 and that was basically unplayable. Getting the car around corners with the delay in control was just way too hard.

The service would work great for things like turn based RPGs or casual/puzzle games but anything fast paced that requires precise controls just doesn't work. Sure you can play it but the fun is sucked out.

The service is a good idea unfortunately due to the way the internet functions at its core its impractical and always will be.
