Yesterday, we reported that Pokemon Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Let’s Go, Eevee! will have something called “Master Trainers” in the post game. The game’s director Junichi Masuda claims that this will add challenge that will otherwise not necessarily be present in the main story itself.
When reporting on this, I wondered on exactly what this might imply for the scope of the post game in Let’s Go, given how poor it has been over the last few entries in the series. Now, from what we are hearing, it seems like it may end up being fairly substantial and meaty after all.
“The master trainiers – so these are trainers who are kind of the ultimate trainers of a specific Pokémon, so you will challenge them,” said designer Kensaku Nebana in an interview with Eurogamer. “So you will challenge them, and then get their title for that Pokémon, so you become the master of that Pokémon if you manage to beat them in battle.”
Masuda then added that there will, in fact, be one Master Trainer for every Pokemon in the game, which means there will be 151 of them to track down and beat.
“So for me, my favourite Pokémon is Psyduck, so I’d be training my Psyduck amazingly and then would challenge the Psyduck Master, and then gain the Psyduck Master title, and that’s something you can put a lot of effort and a lot of time into, if I really wanted to create a challenge for myself – and these Master Trainers exist for all of the 151 Pokémon in the game, so you know, if you want to collect all of the titles then that’s something you can really challenge yourself with,” he said.
Basically, it sounds to me like the Master Trainers are the ultimate trainers of a specific kind of Pokemon, and once you have trained up their kind of Pokemon a lot (maybe to Level 100?), you can challenge them to gain the mantle of being the “Master” of that kind of Pokemon.
If so, then that certainly adds a lot of length to the post game, given that there are 151 of these buggers to find and train up. Pokemon Let’s Go launches for Nintendo Switch on November 16.
