It’s Wednesday, which means the latest Media Create numbers reporting on sales in Japan are out. And… well, predictably enough, the Nintendo Switch topped the charts again, with over 40,000 units sold. The system has consistently ands predictably been selling that much weekly for months now, which leads me to suggest that that is what the weekly supply for it is capped at in Japan at the moment.
The shocking thing here is the sales for the PS4–it came in second place on the hardware charts, but sold less than 15,000 units. It’s a shocking drop for the system, especially since it comes just months after Monster Hunter World launched, and was expected to give it a stronger baseline than before. With less than 10,000 units sold, 3DS rounds out the top three on the hardware chart.
On the software chart, Nintendo perennials Kirby Star Allies, Splatoon 2, Super Mario Odyssey, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and, of course, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, all continued to exhibit strong performances. Monster Hunter World continued doing about as well as it could have been expected to, while Far Cry 5’s second week sales are surprisingly strong as well.
