The PS4 is more powerful than the Xbox 720, it has been revealed. This info comes to us via EDGE, who have a lot of credibility and it also echoes past rumours from major websites that give an edge to Sony’s console when it comes to pure specs.
The thing to note here is that Sony has went with GDDR5 memory, while Microsoft has gone with DDR3 memory, and while the GDDR5 is blistering fast, Microsoft’s console also has 32MB ESRAM to make up for the deficit in the slow speed of DDR3.
It has also been revealed that the PS4 has a better GPU than the Xbox 720.
“Though Durango devkits offer 8GB of DDR3 RAM, compared to Orbis’s 4GB, Sony’s GDDR5 solution is capable of moving data at 176 gigabytes per second, which should eliminate the sort of bottlenecks that hampered PS3 game performance. Importantly, we’ve learned that Sony has told developers that it is pushing for the final PS4 RAM to match up to Microsoft’s 8GB,” EDGE rumour read.
“Both platforms are driven by eight-core AMD CPUs clocked at 1.6GHz, with Microsoft opting for a D3D11.x GPU from an unknown source and Sony utilising a more capable solution in AMD’s ‘R10XX’ architecture, alongside the so-called ‘Liverpool’ system-on-chip.”
These shouldn’t be taken serious because they are on paper specs, and the actual performance could be different.
