PS4 Trounces Nintendo Switch In Japan In Latest Media Create Weekly Charts

And this is before Monster Hunter World's launch!

The PS4 has been losing to the Nintendo Switch on the Japanese weekly hardware charts for quite a while now- mostly because of how uncontrollably and unbelievably massive the demand for Nintendo’s new hybrid console is. However, this last week, the PS4 manage to edge out ahead of the Switch, thanks to a combination of a new release, as well as recurrent stock issues for Nintendo’s console.

The PS4 sold almost 45,000 units last week, while the Switch was at 37,000; the 3DS came in at a weak third place, with less than 20,000 units sold. The PS4’s victory this week was marked by the launch of Dissidia: Final Fantasy NT, which topped charts with 105,000 units sold. It was followed by the typical Nintendo Switch and 3DS evergreen games, with Earth Defense Force 5 being the only other PS4 game in the top ten.

The PS4 should continue its domination of Japanese charts for the next few weeks, especially with the early part of the year being the weakest period for Nintendo traditionally, and with the impending launch of Monster Hunter World. The battle for the Japanese market is about to heat up.
