The numbers will never be concrete because the survey by the NPD Group does not cover all markets or na entire market of a single country. The head of the Xbox Division has stated that Brazil is its third largest market and the NPD has no survey of sales of consoles in this country for exemple…

Sony is definitely selling more consoles, but that 2:1 gap does not exist anymore.

And don’t forget that Sony’s sales total also includes the recently released PS4 Pro.

Not to mention: that’s ONLY in the US, it DOESN’T include Black Friday/Cyber Monday, and even a small region like Japan has such a difference weekly(see the latest media create numbers for evidence of that).

Concrete numbers aren’t known for either console on a monthly basis, which is why you can’t actually find them anywhere.

The Xbox family reached 1 million units sold, the difference between both consoles was around 100 thound units and it is no longer 2:1. Digital sales are much higher on the Xbox and it comes with the native culture to sell services connected to the internet, as the live gold subscription and and access, added to the the fact that Xbox offer, in the vast majority, games with multiplayer mode and/or co op. The culture on the Playstation family is still focused on games with single player mode only.
