I feel for Microsoft because they are quite literally always ahead of their time and people say they are behind the times. The ideas are good, the technology isn't there yet and the product fails to launch. They were the first to release the tablet. The iPad succeeded some years later when the hardware got to where it needed to be. They were first to have a smart watch years ago. Huge fail.

Xbox was also the first console to introduce online gaming to a console. The original PS2 did not have an Ethernet port it wasn't unit the Xbox was released with it when an adapter was released.
People said it was dumb for Xbox to have a subscription online service. Now people are on board with it because the benefit is now apparent. Cloud processing may be seen as irrelevant now. It is the future and 20 years from now people are going to be like how was the PS4 so successful without dedicated servers.

I really feel the Xbox One is a head of it's time, some what misguided(I'm looking at you Don Mattrick) and failed to market a product in away people wanted. It was too much at once. Hardware being the biggest fail. They tried to do too much while staying competitive in price. $20 per console would have got DDR5 into it and completely eliminated any performance complaints compared to its competitor.

I for one am for a console that I can buy a disc and install it just like a PC. People didn't realize this is what they wanted in 2013. Going into holidays 2015, 50% of console video games are sold digitally with no chance of resale. It's predicted that number will reach 75% in the next 2 years. At least with M$'s plan you could sell your disc still. If it was next gen and this system was offered it wouldn't have been a big deal. Thanks to the huge backlash we will likely never see that kind of option. Which IMO was a good compromise.

As far as STB and game console together. Apple just announced the new Apple TV supports gaming controllers. STB/Livingroom PC/Consoles are the future. Enough Said.

Microsoft could easily flex it's wallet and put Sony into the ground. However they also want to have a viable profitable business. Sony was once the electronics King. They slowly became an electronics joke with Samsung and others taking the crown. The Playstation brand has brought them back up. Without innovation they will fall behind again.

Sony 100% pushes disc based media because a huge part of Sony is producing the discs those games go on. By getting behind killing disc's in consoles they would be hurting one of there only profitable divisions.

All the major game producers want DRM, I don't blame them either. Company's like Gamestop make millions from these companies IP. I will never buy a used game for that reason. If the money goes to the game producers the budgets will get bigger and the games will get better.

Bit of tangent, just my opinion. People call me a M$ fan boy cause I defend them. I'm a gaming and tech fan boy that appreciates any kind of innovation. I love Alpha's and Beta's.
Microsoft should really change the name to the Xbox Beta, cause it ain't done yet.

I find it funny that Sony is way out of microsoft's league in money at least, and despite that, they are doing much much better out of the box this gen. Microsoft has finally learned from their original arrogance and are shuffling "new" things onto the table to hopefully win back their fanbase. Competition is good for us gamers though am i right? I predict that next generation microsoft will try to demolish the ps5 in specifications while implementing and marketing their form of cloud technology as by that point cloud generally speaking will become mainstream tech. Though with what sony has offered with such little capitol with the ps4 i could only imagine what they could do if they had 80 billion as well.

I guess the difference between me and you is I embrace new tech. I use my kinect every single day. Something's it's not as seamless as it should be but voice commands, the ir blaster and facial recognition even in the dark work mint.

I enjoy all tech. I try to get into any beta I can to try it out finished doesn't matter too me.

Of course accused of being a fan boy because I respect the technology. Because I can wrap my head around the potential

Yes 343 dropped the ball with halo but the fact that you think servers have anything to do with co-op split tells me you have no clue how dedicated servers work.

Your entire rebuttal is based subjective or has nothing to do with the topic.

Just remember this convo in 10 years when all big games take place on servers.

Did you reply to the wrong post? At no time did I say "just put everything on the GPU" or anything of the sort. Also GPU compute units CAN do branching so you're wrong anyway.
No one is saying do everything on the GPU, even if you could that would be stupid because then you'd be wasting what CPU resources you do have. The fact is though that current games aren't using all the GPU hardware because there are 8 Asynchronous Compute Engines on the PS4 (2 on the Xbox One) that are largely doing nothing and games tend to be CPU bound. You don't have to move EVERYTHING off the CPU, just some things. Each task you move from the CPU to the GPU reduces the bottleneck of the CPU and help utilize the formerly unused parts of the GPU.
This hasn't been done very much so far because DX11 and down don't support Asynchronous Compute and the PS3 and Xbox 360 hardware don't either. A lot of developers have still be targeting the prior gen consoles as well as Windows PCs so they couldn't really heavily utilize Asynchronous Compute. Devs seem to finally be dropping last gen console support for new AAA games and DX12 supports Asynchronous Compute so the situation is about to get much better.
At launch only the PS4 had the API and hardware to support it (GNM), the Xbox One had a crappy launch API that's been fixed over time in updates and still only has 2 ACEs compared to the PS4s 8. AMD cards on PC have the hardware but until DX12 lacked the API to use it. NVidia cards, which are more popular on PC, lacked the hardware since the APIs didn't support it anyway. Even on the PS4 it's easier to program in high level APIs then it is to use low level so the early games used the more DX11-like high level GNMX API instead of the more powerful low level GNM API. We're finally at the point now where devs are comfortable enough with the APIs, the last gen support is being dropped, and new APIs on the other platforms will allow the hardware of the PS4 to be fully utilized.

I could hear the slurping of you on Microsoft. Good god.
So out of all that, the answer is no. No there is no example. Ok. I, and MANY other consumers shall wait till they actually provide. Remember, there are still a huge amount of consumers sitting there with a kinect in their houses. Fool me once, shame on me, fool me twice, shame on you.
I can not even play halo master chief collection with my son with out laughing at the horrible co-op split screen with screen tear, massive lag and low fps I can not imagine a server will make it better with a longer signal time.
Congrats on your likes. Like I said, I am enjoying my purchase now in full.
