That’s exactly what I was saying. People are too quick to assume the lack of a distinction between computing certain game functions, computing an entire game remotely, and storing/accessing data on a server. Mainly I am just frustrated at how much stock gets put in every little opinion Pachter has when he says things in the same release that illuminate that he really has no idea how these things work (at least when it comes to this).

I am a VMware Cloud Admin, I can cram 100 VM’s on a single physical server. You M$ fanatics keep sucking that bone though; cloud processing – that’s priceless – they add a new buzzword for bots and you eat it up.

It’s not as complicated as if I stated Sony had 300,000 servers. But as Stephen below has stated of course virtual servers, the point is 300,000 servers ALONE is HUGE!

Aside from that, Microsoft are still building more data centers around the world.

Ever heard of virtualization? It’s quite feasible to launch thousand upon thousands of virtual servers from your data centers and server farms when you have a cloud platform built to work that way.

300,000 servers? So 1 server for every 15 people? Seems like a smoke screen to me; there is no way that is economically feasible.

To be fair, OP’s first statement does make him look like an idiot, and that is my opinion on his opinion.

OK – I’ll admit it – I have no idea what these numbers mean. In fact, stuff like stock markets and 401k’s, give me headaches. People that are far more intelligent than I & make way more money than I ever will – apparently do not understand these things as well, considering the wall street collapse, the housing bubble and don’t forget, the auto industry of the USA. Men and women that made more money off of running (ruining) those things, must be more intelligent than I bc they were able to scheme millions of billions of tax payer dollars back to their respective, ‘wallets’..
