Microsoft and Sony almost always take a loss on the machine because they know they can sell overpiced games and make that money back.

Too early was the scorpio. Sonys hand was sort of forced to do this not really for competition purposes as much as parity became an issue with multiple Taormina games. The pro can run games at 60 fps excluding major games like Destiny 2 but with the ps5 I can see players and developers liking the state of the market a whole lot more. Fall 2020 at the latest with around 18 TFLOPs. That would be about ten times more power than original PS4.

In either case PS5 will be 2 or 3 times more powerful than Scorpio. However there’s more to it than that. A lot more. Since we’re only counting GPU compute performance here, it says nothing of the upgrade in CPU, which will most assuredly be some form of Zen with at least 8 cores & 16 threads. The improvement in CPU performance will be at least as important as the GPU upgrade, and finally free of the shackles of the weak Jaguar core.

Also, High Bandwidth Memory (HBM2) will be commonplace by 2018-2019. Fitting in 32 GB with memory bandwidth approaching 1 Terabyte/sec shouldn’t be too difficult in a console by then. This will be great for next-gen graphic engines running in native 4K, also also for next-gen VR.

Also, because Sony still believes in generations, PS5 games will be designed to run on PS5 hardware, and not PS4 / PS4 Pro. Developers will eventually take full advantage of the hardware, unlike with PS4 Pro and Scorpio, where games on those platforms still have to run on the base PS4 and Xbox One.

BTW, 2018 is too early for PS5.

That is even if you believe Thong to be a valid source….which i do not. Too many sites regurgitating that he predicted Pro and Slim….no he predicted the launch window that was a few months away lol…far cry different than 2 years away. People and leaks had been talking about Neo and a Slim version long before anyone had heard of Thong.

It may happen, it may not only Sony knows and they could delay it or rush it. 2018…bad launch window..too soon. PS4 Pro would have been out what 2 years, PS4 for 5 years. It would be the shortest life-cycle for a massively successful console ever.

Theory is sound….reality is different though lol. Doesnt work for people with actual lives to live. You will fall so far behind on exclusives and AAA multiplats if you have other obligations or hobbies..that it makes it pointless to pay for 2 consoles and then 2 subscriptions and then buy exclusives for both…that is why people choose a box and go with it mostly. People that play everything usually dont play a lot of any one thing because you cant..you spread yourself thin. Not too mention if you enjoy playing music or shooting or whatever…those hobbies cost $$$ too lol. Only way to buy everything and play everything is to have 0 life and somehow have an income resource that isnt an actual job aka inheritance…lottery some kind of settlement or windfall lol.
