Insomniac Games have officially announced today that an animated Ratchet & Clank movie will be appearing in theaters in 2015, Rainmaker Entertainment and Blockade Entertainment will be the two productions companies responsible for the film.
Blockade Entertainment was previously responsible for creating a trailer for Electronic Arts’ Dante’s Inferno; meanwhile Rainmaker Entertainment was featured animated film was Escape from Planet Earth back in February.
“One of the biggest questions we’ve gotten in the last few years is ‘When are you going to make a Ratchet & Clank movie?’,” Insomniac Games community lead James Stevenson said in a statement. “The truth is we’ve wanted to do a movie for a long time! Ratchet & Clank’s action, humor and galaxy-spanning adventures have really been the basis for a fantastic game series, and we think it’d translate perfectly to the big screen.”
Thankfully Insomniac Games will have a “hands-on role” during the production, animation consulting, character development and screenplay. Also, the original Ratchet & Clank writer T.J Fixman will be writing the script for the movie just like he did for all of the Ratchet & Clank titles.
IGN is reporting that the production is already well underway on the movie and voice actors from the game franchise will take part during the film-making. Jim Ward (Qwark), David Kaye (Clank) and James A. Talor (Ratchet) will all be working on the movie. Rainmaker Entertainment president Michael Hefferon has also stated that the studio is “in discussion with potential celebrity talent” for the Ratchet & Clank animated film.
