Ready Player One Film to be Directed by Steve Spielberg

The critically-acclaimed video game novel finally has a director.

Ernest Cline’s Ready player One will be heading to the silver screen. Deadline reports that Steve Spielberg, who’s directed classic films like Saving Private Ryan and Lincoln, will be directing the adaptation.

The film rights for Ready Player One were acquired by Warner Bros. in 2010 with Zak Penn re-drafting Eric Eason’s original draft. Ready Player One takes place in a dystopic future where an online game called OASIS has encompassed every aspect of human life. An Easter Egg hidden within the game promises an immense fortune and tons of power to the one who discovers it and solves its mystery with teenager Wade Watts serving as the catalyst for the same.
