Red Dead Redemption 1 Runs at 4K/30 FPS on PS5

The open world title's PS4 port achieves 4K resolution on PS5 via backward compatibility, but the frame rate is locked at 30.

Rockstar invited widespread criticism with the announcement of Red Dead Redemption’s PS4 and Nintendo Switch port earlier this month, with the bulk of criticism being directed at its $50 price and its almost complete lack of upgrades or enhancements. And while the price obviously still remains a contentious point, it seems it does at least have some technical enhancements when played on a PS5.

As shared by The PlayStation Tester on YouTube (via Rockstar Games insider Tez2 on Twitter), when Red Dead Redemption’s PS4 version is played on a PS5 via backward compatibility, it runs at a 4K resolution, with its frame rate being locked at 30 FPS. Meanwhile, it also features new graphics options in the form of anti-aliasing (via FSR2 or FXAA), motion blue, subtitle scaling, help text scaling, and objective scaling.

It is worth bringing up again that Red Dead Redemption already also runs at 4K on an Xbox Series X/S when played via backward compatibility, where it’s also priced lower and, unlike the recently-released port, includes the multiplayer component.
