Red Dead Redemption 2 and Nintendo Switch Top Japanese Sales Charts in New Media Create Report

A western western game has come in on top of the Japanese charts, I never thought I would see this day.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is a monstrous hit worldwide. It had the biggest entertainment launch of all time, topped software charts in the UK, and even in a country like Japan, which traditionally is averse to western games, it has topped charts in its debut week, selling over 130,000 copies.

Though I stated Japan is traditionally averse to western games, however, it was followed right after by Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, the newest entry in Activision and Treyarch’s long running series, which sold almost 60,000 copies in Japan last week, bringing its lifetime total in the region to just shy of 400,000 units. That apart, the PS4 and Switch versions of Street Fighter Anniversary Collection both did well, as did longstanding Nintendo evergreen games, such as Super Mario Odyssey, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Splatoon 2, and Super Mario Party.

On the hardware side, the Switch came in on top, albeit with under 40,000 units sold. In spite of the Red Dead launch, the PS4 didn’t get much of a bump, and came in second with a little over 20,000 units sold. You can check out the full charts below.
