Reliance recently sent out press releases for a mobile game called Borderwar Defence Patrol. Innocent enough, except when people got a look at the box art, which seemed more than a little familiar.
The image in fact resembles the primary promotional shot for the Battlefield 3 DLC End Game. Check out the comparison below, courtesy of MCVIndia.
Reliance, for its part, acted quick and decided to pull the game from all retail store. It also stated thusly that, “We acknowledge that there has been a lapse in the QA process and we have acted immediately on having this resolved. The game has been presently pulled down from all carriers while our team works towards rectifying the slip-up.
“We will have the game (Borderwar Defence Patrol) corrected and launched again in due course of time. Going forward, we will be more stringent with our QA process.”
In India, ripping off Western properties, be it in promotional cover art or storylines, is nothing new (heck, head over to Bollywood and be rightly scandalized). But as pointed out, one would think that an international company like Reliance would be more careful when their video game box art bares such a strong resemblance to the multi-million selling Battlefield series.
