How the clock, temp and wattage will work for the 14nm and 16nm architectures is indeed interesting. So far it seems that the 16nm tech used by Nvidia seems to handle higher clocks than the 14nm tech used by AMD.

Personally, I am really interested in the 14nm tech because of the upcoming console generation. All the ‘experts’ seem to assume that the upcoming 14nm GPUs of the Neo and Scorpio will be between clocked 800-911MHz, which IMO seems ridiculous.

In reply to Cl. In the previous generation, AMD cards clocked about 20% lower than Nvidia cards. Assuming that relationship holds good, we can expect 1600-1680Mhz to be max attainable (compared with 2000-2100MHz for Nvidia), for around 7-7.5TFlops.

In reply to Jeffrey Byers. The RX 470 meets the minimum VR Requirements too I believe. The 4GB version is only $150 From what i read the 470 is like a 390/970 and the 480 is like a 390x/980. Cant wait to see how well the non reference cards overclock.

We can expect GTX970 performance as a bare minimum as it’s certified “VR READY”; the GTX980 is about 15% faster so that’s pretty likely. I was expecting them to create a GPU that was barely fast enough to get the VR Ready certification so they could have the cheapest VR solution. Even if you don’t buy a HUD yet it’s a big selling point.

They wouldn’t have known what the final performance would have been early in design, tape-out etc so erring on the side of caution is a safe bet too.

*More important perhaps is how high this ends up clocking for after-market solutions like EVGA FTW, and what happens with price gouging.
