There are never any ‘product’ ads as was suggested. Most I’ve ever seen is a simple square that links to the latest game release or whatever.

Hmm interesting point. Not sure I agree though. They kind of go together. Good hardware (desirable by consumer) gets sold a lot. Large install base encourages developers to make more games and they are more likely to make exclusives games as well. See 3rd party exclusives on the PS4 vs XB1. Good hardware (easy to develop for) attracts many developers to make games. Plethora of games available for a system encourage consumers to buy the system.

Also see the Wii U – Nintendo created published many great games from mario 3d word to bayonetta 2and they still had problems.

For Microsoft’s part they haven’t done to bad. For XB1 i really enjoyed Sunset Overdrive, Gears of War 4, Quantum Break, Ori and the Blind Forest. Halo 5’s campaign disappointed but the game is good and multiplayer is a blast. And master chief collection is one of the best collections in gaming, akin to the orange box last gen.
