Remember Double Fine’s Tim Schafer’s outburst about Activision’s Bobby Kotick yesterday? The one where he described him as a prick? Yeah, that one. Well, apparently it was an ‘accident.’
Speaking to Eurogamer (again), he clarified on his comments yesterday, where he had, quite eloquently, propounded that Kotick is ‘a dick,’ and that he should take up ‘arms manufacturing, as opposed to videogames.’ As Schafer says now, ‘That was an accident. I was going to change the title of my talk to ‘how to give interviews and remember to check the microphone is off.”
He goes on to elaborate:
“I need to keep my mouth shut.
It is shocking how you really burn bridges in the industry. You start your own company and you don’t have to work for that jerky boss any more. Not naming names.
‘Then it’s like Empire Strikes Back – you walk in the room and, ‘Holy s*** Darth Vader’s at the table.’ It’s such a small industry, you see the same people over and over again. No-one ever goes away.’
Schafer did decline to tell us what he really thinks about Bobby though. “I’m definitely not saying anything about Bobby,” he said. “After that Eurogamer thing I realised I’m a little nervous about what I want to say.”
It definitely can’t be nice, then.
