A game fails when it feels too long and boring.
Sure, there are game genres and gamer types; most fps fans stay away from J-rpgs, for example. However, there are standards for each genre, usually set by the best games respectively; when other games don't reach those standards (in this case length) then you got in your hands a piece of crap or an over hyped rip off. Yeah yeah, some might say (including developers) "quality before quantity" but a 3 hour single player campaign for a fps is a goshdarned cheap shot when the industry standard is at least 7-8 hours (Halo, Half Life)
Length (usually) means more locations/maps, enemies, bosses, story, twists, custcenes, etc; NOT rehashed locales and cheap backtracking (DMC4).
No amount of extra content, including co-op missions or multiplayer can redeem a under performing single player campaign (unless it is a title specifically done for mp) This shouldn't be tolerated, not on this day an age.
And to be honest, the retail price of the game should be affected by the overall length/content; FRESH content that is; not repeatable co-op missions on the same damn maps.
OP I'm sure you didn't feel Halo 1 or Uncharted 2 were too long and boring; and completing those games surely didn't feel like a chore; right?
