Sonic Team Leader: “No Plans” to Stop Making Console Games

Takashi Iizuka answers a query on Sonic's home console status.

Sonic the Hedgehog, Sega’s mascot and Mario’s equal during the Genesis era, has seen better days. In between horrible attempts to reinvent his character, including the recently horrible Sonic Boom series, Sega has also been focusing more on mobiles and less on home consoles.

4Gamer spoke to Sonic Team leader Takashi Iizuka about the same and asked whether this would affect Sonic’s status on consoles. Iizuka responded, “Please rest assured, I personally have no plans to stop making Sonic games for home consoles.”

In some ways it’s a good thing but Sonic has since stopped being relevant for this console generation or the last. Despite being developed by a different team, Sonic Boom saw the series sink to new lows – it even earned our Worst Game of 2014 award.

That being said, it would be odd if Sonic wasn’t on consoles any more. Do you agree? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
