NO ! I do not say the playing field is leveled. I am an IT professional, have worked as MIS/DBM and a little programming. I know a lot about Microsoft and not much about Apple.

The FACT that a majority of users hate Win8 can be calculated by the amount of Win8 machines bought & returned to stores and the widespread availability of a myriad of “Start Button” software. Having X-Box kiddie buttons, touting software that is neither on the computer nor purchased is FALSE ADVERTISING. It is SUBJECTIVELY BAD, having an OS that takes more control from the Inexperienced User, down to the Expert User, away and putting it in the hands of MS. Making Regress towards a Mainframe network where none of your software resides on your computer, your functionality depending on the Mainframe server, turns your terraflop moving PC into an expensive PAPERWEIGHT. An operating system that was molested to fit cellphones, POS & especially designed to work on tablets & touch screens, FAILED to serve the PC consumer industry in any fashion. Check Mate (III).

MS Office isn’t terribly expensive, comes bundled in various forms with various devices, and downloading it is far from problematic.
