Well, because pc gamers and console gamers don’t share the same “space” (for lack of a better word). It’s very unlikely that a pc player will buy a console to play with his friends, and it’s unlikely that a console gamer will buy a pc to play with his friends. Players that own both a gaming pc and a console are a minority.

PS: it’s for the very same reason that PlayAnywhere exists.
