When Sony recently announced that it would be making the announcement that everyone had been waiting for, many gamers assumed it would be the reintroduction of The Last Guardian. The often-delayed title has been pretty much AWOL since its debut at E3 2009 (and it’s been in development since 2007), and while there was hope that we’d get some new news on the same, it just wasn’t meant to be.
Nonetheless, the project is still alive. Speaking to Game Informer, president of Sony’s worldwide studios for SCE Shuhei Yoshida stated that they’re simply waiting for the right time to re-debut it.
“The team is still there in SCE Japan Studio, [Fumito] Ueda-san is still there, but we are still waiting for the time to reintroduce it.”
Ueda departed from Team Ico while the project was on-going, but stayed on the project as a consultant. Higher priority was given to games like Knack and Puppeteer – perhaps with their subsequent releases, we’ll hear something new about The Last Guardian? Stay tuned.
