Splatoon 2 And Nintendo Switch Top Japanese Sales Charts

Nintendo takes top position on hardware and software charts on the back of Splatoon 2.

Media Create has released its report for video game hardware and software sales for the week ended last Sunday, and, as you may expect, Splatoon 2 topped the charts by an enormous, jaw dropping margin, with the Nintendo Switch buoyed to the top spot on the hardware charts as a result as well.

Splatoon 2 topped charts with 648,000 units sold, which is far beyond the second place game on the charts, Layton’s Mystery Journey, which debuted last week, and sold 70,000 units. Splatoon 2 actually outsold all the other games in the Top 20 charts put together- a truly stunning performance by the sequel to Nintendo’s hit Wii U game.

On the hardware front, the Switch topped charts with 99,000 units sold last week. The 3DS took second place with 34,000 units sold, and the PS4 was third place with 30,000 units sold. As with the software charts, the hardware charts saw the Switch sell more than every other system on the charts put together.

The Japanese charts have finally gotten interesting- but next week promises to continue that, with Dragon Quest 11‘s release. Dragon Quest 11 is expected to open to 2 million units of sales across the 3DS and PS4 versions, so for now, it looks like the Japanese market’s recovery continues.
