Splinter Cell Film Will be Helmed by The Bourne Identity Director

Doug Liman is apparently in final negotiations to direct the Tom Hardy-starring flick.

Production is moving forward on Ubisoft’s film adaptations of famous games like Splinter Cell and Assassin’s Creed. While the Michael Fassbender-produced and starring project has gone off the radar as of late, it seems the Splinter Cell film will begin production in August. It will star Tom Hardy as Sam Fisher and according to The Hollywood Reporter, The Bourne Identity director Doug Liman is in negotiations to direct the film.

Liman is currently directing Edge of Tomorrow, a science fiction war film starring Tom Cruise adapted from the famous light Japanese novel “All You Need is Kill”. That will be out from May end onwards worldwide after which we assume Liman will be free to work on Splinter Cell.

The screenplay is also in good hands with Eric Singer of American Hustle fame penning it. The Splinter Cell film will be produced by Limon and Ubisoft Motion Picture Group’s Jean-Julien Baronnet. It currently has no release date but Ubisoft is targeting a 2015 release date.
