Star Citizen Reaches $14 Million in Kickstarter Funding

The space sim reaches staggering heights on the crowdfunding website.

Star Citizen, the grandiose space sim and exploration game planned for next year, has reached $14 million in Kickstarter funding, a staggering amount by any stretch of the imagination.

Since October 10, over 210,000 backers have raised that amount of money. $14 million means the game now gets a Hibernation Mode, which will allow the player to leave his spaceship hibernating in deep space, and then resume later without having to worry about what might have happened to it. In addition, the developer is also planning on including loads of behind the scenes features.

A $15 million goal has also been posted for the game, which will entail the inclusion of a new ship class (an escort carrier) in the game. At $16 million, the developers will include an Arena mode, and the people who pledged any money in those $16 million will get a laser pistol.
