Star Citizen is notable for so many reasons, but the one that is most readily apparent is just how gorgeous the game really looks. It looks like this will be the game that justifies the sheer power that PCs can afford- modern PC games are at best glorified console ports, or RTSs/MOBAs/MMORPGs- great genres, but hardly visual showcases.
Star Citizen, of course, looks to change all that. Take, for instance, this brand new space ship, the Origin M-50, which has been confirmed for the game. The spaceship looks stunningly realistic, thanks to twelve 4096 x 4096 textures layered on top of each other; meanwhile, the model itself is made by 100,000 polygons. The details are all further enhanced by normal mapping, also done in 4096 resolution.
The result is a gloriously stunning looking model in a beautiful game, and one that promises to play as well as it looks. For example, it was also revealed that any damage that you accrue for your vehicles will accumulate over time, as opposed to resetting after each session, as is the norm currently.
Star Citizen launches next year, exclusively on PC.
