Super Mario Bros. Wonder is the Fifth Biggest Physical Launch in the UK for 2023

Sales are "significantly bigger" than New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe but 62 percent less than The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

While Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 topped the UK physical charts for the week, Nintendo’s Super Mario Bros. Wonder still performed well. It debuted second in the region and is already the fifth biggest physical launch of the year, right behind the superhero title, per Chris Dring of Games Industry on Twitter.

While launch sales are 62 percent lower than The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (the third biggest physical release in the UK this year), it’s “significantly bigger” than New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe. Also, as Dring noted, 2D Mario games are “longer-term sellers,” so sales could remain consistently strong over an extended period.

It’s worth noting that Super Mario Odyssey’s physical launch was bigger, but due to digital downloads growing in popularity, overall launch sales may put Wonder on par, if not higher. Stay tuned for GSD’s digital + physical sales charts in the coming days.
