Yes, Super Mario Odyssey will have a co-op mode. It won’t be like Super Mario 3D World, which was fully playable in co-op multiplayer, but instead sounds like a return to the kind of multiplayer that Super Mario Galaxy and Galaxy 2 had- one player will now be controlling Cappy, Mario’s sentient cap, directing its motion and attacks, and even where it goes when Mario is trying to possess someone or something.
You can see for yourself exactly how it works in the gameplay footage below. Of course, there is always the possibility that something more extensive may also be in the works, especially since online functionality was also teased for Odyssey yesterday (and let’s be honest, while this is cool, it wouldn’t exactly be something you would set up an online game f0r).
Still, it looks great, as does the game itself. Super Mario Odyssey is due out exclusively on the Nintendo Switch on October 27.
