Super Mario Odyssey Gets Two New Costumes To Celebrate Christmas and Nostalgia

Santa Claus Mario is really creepy looking though, I have to admit.

Nintendo’s post launch support for Super Mario Odyssey hasn’t been as impressive as it has been for some of their other games, but it has been free, and gotten us some of the most charming Mario costumes, so I suppose you can’t complain. In this case, we get two brand new Mario costumes—one to celebrate the glorious past of the most iconic video game character there is, and one to celebrate the spirit of the season.

The new update for the game, available now to download for absolutely free, adds an 8-bit Mario costume to the game, and a Santa Claus Mario costume, Nintendo announced on Twitter. The 8-bit Mario costume costs 9,999 coins, while Santa comes in at 1,500 coins. No, you can’t spend actual money on these—you have to get these coins by playing the game, the old fashioned way, like we used to back before paying your way into things as a shortcut via microtransactions became a thing.

Super Mario Odyssey is available now on Nintendo Switch.
