Super Mario Odyssey might at first seem like an obvious successor to Super Mario 64– after all, it too is an objective based sandbox 3D platformer- but it looks like it will be a total departure from the other games in the series, almost going for a more adventure game style of play, with puzzles and objectives hidden in a very dense sandbox, encouraging players to interact with anything and everything that they can.
This is typified in this brand new gameplay video for the game, which you can see below, which shows Mario throwing his hat at any and everything that moves. if you have been keeping up with this game, you know that Mario’s hat is central to a lot of his abilities this time around, assisting him in platforming, and letting him possess anything that it lands on.
We see a lot of that, and we even get to see some precarious platforming (ending in the most predictable way) here- you can check it all out in the video below. Super Mario Odyssey launches exclusively on the Nintendo Switch on October 27.
