Super Mario Odyssey Runs In 720p and 60FPS in Handheld Mode; 900p and 60FPS in Console Mode

Nintendo's portly plumber puts his best foot forward.

Arguably the biggest and most exciting upcoming game of this year will be Super Mario Odyssey, the long awaited return of Nintendo’s mascot platformer. Odyssey looks absolutely incredible- it looks like Nintendo has gone bonkers in the best possible way and unleashed all of its creativity in one game.

It also looks great- the game, thanks to heavy stylization by Nintendo, looks gorgeous. And now, Digital Foundry has confirmed that, at least as far as the pre-release builds of the game are concerned, the game will run at a crisp 60 frames per second, in both, console and handheld modes. What about the resolution? That will be 720p in handheld mode (the highest the Switch screen goes to) and 900p in console mode.

That’s not all, either- in console mode, the game also gets improved bloom, LOD, shadows, and draw distance. The lower resolution and missing effects are not likely to matter on a Switch screen, which is smaller- and on the whole, it is good to see Nintendo putting its best foot forward with its upcoming flagship game.

Super Mario Odyssey will launch exclusively on the Nintendo Switch on October 27.
