Super Smash Bros. 3DS Sells 1 Million Units in Opening Weekend

The newest edition of the Nintendo brawler is already selling like hotcakes.

Nintendo’s 3DS version of the new Super Smash Bros. recently released in Japan and has managed to sell 1 million units in its first weekend. This number includes retail and digital sales according to Nintendo. The game reportedly fought off competition from Bungie’s Destiny for the top spot and is yet another 3DS title which has reached 1 million copies sold in record time (alongside Pokemon X&Y).

Super Smash Bros. on the Wii U still doesn’t have a fixed release date but it is expected in Q4 2014. The 3DS version differs by including a cel-shaded graphical style that is stereoscopic in nature (thus allowing you to view them in 3D). There’s also the exclusive Smash Run mode which sees players racing through obstacle courses full of power ups before eventually fighting each other.

Fans looking forward to Super Smash Bros. on the 3DS in North America and Europe can expect it to land on October 3rd. Stay tuned for more details.
