Super Smash Bros. Ultimate hasn’t released yet- it actually launches right at the end of 2018, in December- but it is already the bestselling game of the year so far on Amazon.com. According to the website’s yearly bestsellers chart, Smash Ultimate is already outdoing games such as God of War, Monster Hunter World, and even Red Dead Redemption 2.
The incredible part is that it has achieved this solely on the basis of pre-orders. Of course, Amazon is only one retailer, and Nintendo games always seem to do a bit better there relative to the rest of the market, but even so, I think we can safely take this as indication that the game is primed to be huge– bigger than any other game in the series so far, almost certainly.
Now, will it be enough to help Nintendo meet their 20 million units sold forecast for Switch? That remains to be seen. But I think it’s got a chance. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate launches on Nintendo Switch on December 7.
