Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Is Most Pre-Ordered Game in the Series’, and Switch’s, History

Time to prepare yourselves, everyone- this one is going to be one for the record books.

That Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is wildly anticipated isn’t something you need me to tell you. But just how widely anticipated is it? According to Nintendo, who shared a new advertisement for the game today with this bit of information tucked away within it, it is the most pre-ordered Nintendo Switch game ever. It is also the most pre-ordered Smash Bros. game of all time.

Both of those would be amazing feats—on the Smash front, Super Smash Bros. Brawl is one of the highest selling exclusives at launch in history (and I mean across all platforms), while the Switch has received some very anticipated games since its launch, including Super Mario Odyssey and Pokemon Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Let’s Go, Eevee! To be tracking ahead of all of that is impressive. It would also, by definition, be the most pre-ordered Nintendo game of all time, not counting Pokemon, which is a whole other beast entirely, but that isn’t something that Nintendo have said specifically.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate launches exclusively for the Nintendo Switch on December 7. Make sure to learn more about how series creator Masahiro Sakurai set out to bring every character in the franchise’s history together for this title.
