Super Smash Bros. Ultimate just came out today, but it seems like a combination of strong pre-orders plus explosive day one sales have combined to place it firmly at the top of Amazon’s annual best selling charts. That’s right, on Amazon, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is the best selling item in the video games category all year.
This means that not only has it sold more than any PS4, Xbox One, or Switch console, accessory, or online card variants, but it has also outsold any other game this year. At least as far as Amazon goes, Smash has outsold God of War, Spider-Man, and even Red Dead Redemption 2. If this is even slightly indicative of the kind of performance the game will exhibit elsewhere, then Nintendo may have a monstrous hit on their hands.
It’s unlikely the hype for the game is going to die down any time soon, too—it’s pretty fantastic (keep an eye out for our upcoming review!), plus with the recent announcement of Persona 5’s Joker joining the fight as a DLC character, it seems that even people who aren’t traditionally Nintendo fans are going to be roped in by this one.
