Switch Has Shipped 1 Million Units In China Through Official Channels

That's bigger than PS4 and Xbox One sales combined in the region.

Much has been written about the great success of Nintendo’s Switch console/handheld hybrid, even in markets where Nintendo is not traditionally the strongest. The system has helped Nintendo hit something of a goldmine after the flop of the Wii U and the overall underperformance of the 3DS. Now, it seems they are tackling another region, one in which they also seem to be rising to the top in.

Way back in 2019, it was announced that Nintendo and Chinese multimedia giant, Tencent, were partnering to the bring the Switch to the Chinese market officially. While the country has become a huge one for entertainment, there are still many restrictions in place that limits the ability to import. Now, it seems the Switch has hit there pretty well.

According to Niko Partners analyst Daniel Ahmad, the company has managed to ship 1 million Switch consoles to the market through official channels since its launch in December of 2019. To give you an idea of how impressive that is, that is more than both the PS4 and Xbox One combined in the same timeframe.

There are some caveats, mainly that there exists an active ‘grey market’ in China for games and consoles, so it can be difficult to gauge how many consoles are actually on the market. Still, though, shipping that amount on the official market is still a strong debut however you slice things.
