Earlier this year, Nightdive Studios announced that a live-action series based on the classic System Shock games was currently in development, and that it will be streamed exclusively for the streaming platform Binge.com. While the remake of the first System Shock has been in development for quite a while and is slated to finally release this year, the live-action series is also progressing steadily, and recently finally got its writer and director.
As reported by Deadline, the upcoming System Shock series will be penned and directed by Greg Russo, who previously worked on 2021’s Mortal Kombat movie as a writer, and will also be writing a Saints Row film adaptation.
The announcement was made by Binge.com, and alongside the aforementioned duties, Russo will also act as one of the executive producers for the show, alongside Binge’s Allan Ungar, Nightdive Studios CEO and founder Stephen Kick, and the Director of Business Development at Nightdive Studios Larry Kuperman.
Speaking about the series, Russo said that he is “honored to have the opportunity to work alongside the fantastic team at Binge and Nightdive Studios to bring the iconic System Shock franchise to life,” and that he has “been waiting for the right opportunity to make my directorial debut.”
The series currently does not have an exact release date, but Binge itself is planned to release this year, so maybe the upcoming live-action show based on the classic sci-fi horror series will be one of the earlier shows kickstarting the platform.
