However, Super Mario Odyssey and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe are the top-selling Switch titles till date.

Amid other companies sharing their financial results today, Nintendo revealed updated sales numbers for its top-selling Switch titles. These are sales as of September 30th, 2018, so the actual numbers till now may be higher. Regardless, Super Mario Odyssey leads the pack, with 12.17 million units sold. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is in second place with 11.71 million units sold.

However, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is arguably most worthy of note, having received massive critical acclaim for its open world mechanics and design. It was also the flagship title for the Switch when it first launched, prompting many a fan to put down money for the new console. As it turns out, this paid off handsomely for Nintendo in the long run, with the game now having sold 10.28 million units on the Switch.

Other titles include Splatoon 2 selling 7.47 million units, 1-2 Switch selling 2.64 million units, and Mario Tennis Aces hitting 2.16 million units sold. ARMS has managed to sell 2.10 million units, followed by Kirby Star Allies at 2.10 million as well. Interestingly, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze has sold 1.67 million units, which bodes well for other Wii U titles that have been ported over to the Switch. Finally, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 sits at 1.53 million units sold.

Holidays aren’t here yet, but it looks like Nintendo is already gearing up to hawk its wares. Unlike last year, when the Switch was new, and already besot with shortages that prevented it from reaching mass market prices, none of that is a consideration this time around. Which is why Nintendo is going to launch a brand new Switch bundle in the US.

This bundle comes with a copy of Mario Tennis Aces, as well as a copy of 1-2-Switch, they’ve announced on Twitter, meaning people who buy this get a relatively more “core” game to play, as well as a party game to just mess around with with their families. The bundle comes up to $360, which means you are basically getting one of these games for free. Unfortunately, you can’t actually sell any of the games you don’t want, because both are digital.

The bundle will be available exclusively at Walmart, starting September 5. It’ll be interesting to see if Nintendo has any further bundles or discounts for the Switch this Holiday.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe managed to sell 3.54 million units.

Nintendo offered updated information on Switch sales from its recent financials. The company has sold 4.7 million units of the console with software sales at 13.60 million units.

Breaking down the software sales even further, it was revealed that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe sold 3.54 million units while The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild on the Switch managed to sell 3.92 million. ARMS managed to sell 1.18 million while 1-2-Switch managed to sell 1.22 million units.

Given how Mario Kart 8 Deluxe was an updated version of the game released on Wii U, this is good news for Nintendo indeed. It should motivate Nintendo to release even more updated Wii U ports for the Switch. Could that mean Xenoblade Chronicles X, Super Smash Bros., Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker and so on in the coming years?

Nintendo’s most recent exclusive was Splatoon 2 (whose review you can read here) with the next big release being Super Mario Odyssey out on October 27th.

Achieves this goal in 17 weeks, which is only four weeks more than the 3DS.

A new report by Japanese publication Famitsu (translated by NeoGAF) has revealed that the Nintendo Switch has surpassed 1 million units sold in Japan. By hitting 1,016,473 units sold in 17 weeks, it’s managed to beat out the Wii U’s time in achieving that mark, which is 34 weeks.

Further comparisons by GAF indicated that it beat out the PS3 (36 weeks) and PS4 (49 weeks) as well. Interestingly, it’s only four weeks ahead of the 3DS, which took 13 weeks. Famitsu also noted that the top five best-selling games for the Switch in Japan so far are Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (501,614), The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (60,480), 1-2-Switch (200,807), ARMS (154,845) and Super Bomberman R (92,112).

Thus far, the console has been a great success for Nintendo with the company itself reporting 2.74 million units sold worldwide in March. What are your thoughts on the Nintendo Switch’s sales numbers, especially in Japan? Let us know in the comments below and stay tuned for more updates on the console in the coming months.

Game sales off to a good start.

The Nintendo Switch has had a fairly strong start worldwide. Along with UK retailers reporting strong sales for the console, MCV (via Nintendo Today) revealed that 137,000 software units were sold during March.

Titles like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (which was the third best-selling overall game in the UK for March), 1-2 Switch and Super Bomberman R were stated as the main software sellers.

Meanwhile, the PS4 – bolstered by releases like Horizon: Zero Dawn, Ghost Recon Wildlands, Nier: Automata and Mass Effect: Andromeda garnered more than 800,000 software sales for March. The Xbox One saw 500,000 software units sold. The fact that the Switch saw such strong sales with virtually no pre-existing is a good sign for now.

Also, it seems that some 50,000 software units were sold on the Wii U, most likely due to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. What are your thoughts on the Switch’s success? Let us know below.

It looks like even Hideo Kojima cannot resist the allure of Nintendo’s upcoming Nintendo Switch system. As Nintendo Life are reporting, Hideo Kojima, who is currently working on the eagerly anticipated Death Stranding, Kojima was spotted in Sydney, Australia at RTX playing with the Switch, and especially the controversial party minigame collection 1 2 Switch.

Kojima also apparently took some time to play the eagerly anticipated upcoming The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. The full playthrough of the Switch and its games by Kojima will be posted by Greg Miller of Kinda Funny Games, who attended the event with him, tomorrow.

Nintendo’s Switch is due to launch on March 3, worldwide. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will be launching right alongside it, for the Switch as well as for Wii U. Make sure to stay tuned to GamingBolt for more coverage of the Switch and of the game.

Tatsumi Kimishima says providing "new titles regularly" is important.

Even with all the buzz around the Nintendo Switch, one of the bigger criticisms that many can agree on is the launch line-up. Aside from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, many of Switch’s launch titles are either ports or party games like 1-2 Switch and ARMS. The lack of a bundled game doesn’t help matters.

Nintendo isn’t oblivious to those criticisms though. President Tatsumi Kimishima stated during the company’s earnings briefing that, “Some of those who have seen this lineup have expressed the opinion that the launch lineup is weak.

“Our thinking in arranging the 2017 software lineup is that it is important to continue to provide new titles regularly without long gaps. This encourages consumers to continue actively playing the system, maintains buzz, and spurs continued sales momentum for Nintendo Switch.”

That’s all well and good but it’s not exactly an approach that’s helped Nintendo in the past (see the Wii U). We’ll find out if history repeats itself when the Switch launches on March 3rd.

It's about a "steady pacing of content".

Among the many criticisms the Nintendo Switch has received since its January 13th presentation is that of its launch line-up. Though The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will be stellar, games like Just Dance 2017, Skylanders: Imaginators, Super Bomberman R and 1-2 Switch haven’t exactly set minds afire.

Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime addressed this while speaking to CNET and noted that, “Launch day is not the be-all and the end-all. It really is the steady pacing of content that continually reinforces for the people who bought into the platform why they made a smart choice, as well as what compels people who might be sitting on the sidelines to jump in.”

“We feel we have this great ongoing march of content to motivate you to jump into the platform.”

Which is all well and good but given the company’s track record with Wii U, it remains to be seen whether that “steady pacing of content” will happen. Nintendo Switch is out on March 3rd so stay tuned for more details.

Face to face gaming is now a thing.

Though we saw plenty of awesome triple A titles from the Nintendo Switch presentation, there’s no denying the potential party aspects of the console. Case in point, Nintendo started off the presentation with 1-2 Switch, which allows players to take control of one Joy-Con each and face each other over a series of mini-games.

We got a look at Ping Pong and a version “Draw” from old Western films but there are plenty of others to be had. One of the more interesting aspects of 1-2 Switch is the face-to-face aspect which emphasizes watching your opponent rather than watching the screen. It looks fairly interesting though we’re not sure it will function as a great ice breaker at parties like Nintendo envisions.

1-2 Switch will release on March 3rd alongside the Nintendo Switch. Would it have made more sense to bundle it with the console? Perhaps but let us know what you think in the comments below.
