At the Bafta office in London earlier today the nominees for the 2010 Bafta game award were announced by TV presenter Michael Underwood. We were lucky enough to be invited to the event and can now give you the full list of the ten nominees. The games are all titles from last year that were put forward by a panel of thirteen judges for their excellence and success.

The games are:

Call of Duty: Black Ops

Halo: Reach

Heavy Rain

Mass Effect 2

Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit

Red Dead Redemption

Super Mario Galaxy 2

Diversity to seems to be the key in the nominations and it appears that there is a game for everyone. The award is being announced at the Baftas on the 16^th March and the show will be hosted by Dara o’ Briain. It’s important to note that the Bafta game award is the only award where public votes decide the winner. The voting polls are now open, so make sure you vote for your favourite game at the Bafta game awards site.

Mass Effect 2

Many times hailed as the Game of The Year, Mass Effect 2 takes Commander Shepard back into hyperspace in this thrilling third person shooter/role playing game. The cast and speech is so good, you might almost kid yourself that you’re watching a movie. The shooting is suprisingly solid and every moment seems fresh- there’s very little repetition, a notion that has taken leaps and bounds since the original Mass Effect.

Call of Duty Black Ops

With a stunning single player campaign and the same great multiplayer you’ve come to expect from the Call of Duty series, you can’t go wrong with Black Ops. If you’ve played all of the previous Call of Duty series and been underwhelmed, then Black Ops won’t change your mind. Fortunately, for the vast majority of the huge fans of the game, there’s lots here to like, from new and improved killstreaks to a small overwork of the perk system. No more One Man Army. Hooray!

Starcraft II

Yes, it’s been a long wait, but it has been worth it. With enough new features to entice newcomers, while retaining plenty of old aspects of gameplay, there’s enough here for veterans too. Battlenet, when it works, tends to work well, and many happy hours of hectic multiplayer fun are guaranteed.

Civilization V

Sid Meier once again gives you the chance to build your nation up from the stone age in one of the most addicting games ever created. Are you man enough to take on the challenge? The tactical combat system has taken a huge overhall and the interface is as slick as ever- if you have ever felt slightly daunted by the sheer scale of previous games, there’s no better game in the series to jump in.

Just Cause 2

If you just like causing chaos, throwing cars into big gangs of dudes and just plainly blowin’ s*** up, then Just Cause 2 is the game for you. The sheer number of crazy stunts you can pull off make it almost worth the money straight away. And as if you needed any extra pushing- it’s $7.50 on Steam for a limited time only!

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat

If you like the thought of a combination of Fallout 3 and Good Gunplay, you owe it to yourself to check this out. If you played previous games in the series and was underwhelmed by it’s mediocre gunplay, shoddy graphics and bugs, then think again about Pripyat- while not totally bug free, it’s the most immersive and stable S.T.A.L.K.E.R game yet.

2010 has been a great year in gaming, probably the best yet in the last decade. With so many new games having been released- and most of them providing unforgettable experiences- and with so many innovations being made, mostly with success, this year has been heaven for all hardcore gamers.

But just games don’t make a year great in gaming, it has to be memorable as well. And how does it become memorable? If it has had moments that were good/bad/funny/whatever enough to make us remember them for a long, long time to come.

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword- (Disastrous) E3 Showing

If any of you watched the Zelda: Skyward Sword showing at E3 this year, you’ll remember that it could’ve been better- actually, much better. When Shigeru Miyamoto walked on stage with the Wiimote and Nunchuk in his hand, he looked far too happy, a grin spread across the breadth of his face.  As soon as Miyamoto began playing, though, his grin faded, turning into a grimace. Wireless interference was screwing with the Wiimote’s receptivity, and Skyward Sword wasn’t running properly. That almost gave us the impression that the game wasn’t properly developed, but of course, that wasn’t the case. But one thing is for sure, wireless interference sure made the conference a hell lot funnier that it was.

Dancing Like An Idiot (Kinect)

Whether you like Kinect or not, you have to agree upon the fact that you look like a complete nutcase while playing the Kinect, especially games like Dance Central and Kinect Adventures. Jumping and twisting and clapping and doing some other retarded stuff in front of a screen, which looks even more so when done in a group, makes us look like nothing but idiots. Of course, Kinect games are certainly fun to play, but at what cost? Looking like an idiot.

Sony’s E3 conference wasn’t really one that I would like to remember watching. While it did have a lot of good announcements, the way it was presented was pretty boring. However, one part of the conference that was not boring AT ALL was when Kevin Butler came on stage, to give his “speech” on the PlayStation Move. However, he did more than just shameless advertisement, his jokes, his subtle humour, his cracks at the competition livened up the show, and made for five truly unforgettable minutes in gaming in 2010.

Halo: Reach Release

Halo: Reach has to be one of the biggest releases of all time in gaming history, and it was certainly worth it. Halo: Reach, upon release, became the best-selling Xbox exclusive in history, had the biggest launch in entertainment in 2010, topped charts all over the place, sold a lot of Xbox 360s, and topped the Xbox Live charts again and again. It sold over 3 million units in the first day, grossing over $200 million, and till date, has sold around 7 million units. Not just this. The game got rave review. We gave it a 10/10, and other notable sites such as IGN and Gamespot rewarded it 9.5/10. Now that’s what I call an impressive launch.

PSP2 Leaks

The PSP2 has to be the most leaky thing ever created. While it still haven’t been officially announced to be in existence, we all know that it very much exists. The PSP2 has been leaked time and again. In the beginning, Dominic Mason, the director at AtomFire Production stated in his resume that he was working on a PSP2 title. After that, Developers behind the famed Mortal Kombat series, Netherrealm Studios, stated that they had the PSP2, and it was a pretty powerful machine. After that, an anonymous British source told VG247 that the PSP2 will be out later next year. Later, it was rumoured that the PSP2 would have a touch pad, and was facing some problems. More recently, VG247 came across exclusive images of a PSP2 Development Kit, and verified that the images were authentic. Come on Sony, announce it officially already!

Halo: Reach is the biggest selling software in US so far this year according to NPD.

Bungie’s last Halo game sold more than 3.29 million copies. These figures enabled it to overthrow New Super Mario Bros from the top and claim it for itself. The Wii game is now placed at second.

Rockstar’s western shooter, Red Dead Redemption is sitting at third while Pokemon SoulSilver and SMG 2 completes the top five.

The document instead has the Viseral title due for a Q4 fiscal 2011 release, which runs from January 2011 to March 2011.

The release consoles have also been confirmed as Xbox 360, PS3, PC and ‘handheld/mobile’.

Other releases joining the title in Q1 2011 will be a new Dragon Age, Epic studios Bulletstorm, a new Need for Speed, Spore 2 and a ‘TBA fighting title’.

The trailer appears to show a PS3 being operated on by machines in a labratory [0:06]. The console is twisted and turned, but what it morphs into isn’t clear. At first it appears to turn into some kind of a music station [0:12], then changes into what can only be described as a chrome toolbox [0:16].

After changing into some kind of an insect type thing [0:23], the screen fades to black with just the words TwistDock printed on a cube [0:28]. Finally, three messages flash across the screen; Level Up PS3, TwistDock, June 2010. We are most certainly intruiged.

While most of the editors here at GamingBolt are (fairly) sure that Sony aren’t creating a whole new PS3 that can play music, be used as a iPod dock and turn into your very own creepy metal animal, we do want to know more.

BlizzCon will take place in Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, California  on Friday, October 22 and Saturday, October 23, 2010.

You cannot buy any tickets yet, but I’m sure that  if you  are  a die-hard Blizzard fan you are planning to go to BlizzCon, which means that you will probably know when you can buy the tickets before any one else.

VG247  states that the event will revert back to the Monday-Friday cycle instead of this year’s cycle, which is Tuesday-Saturday. It will commence on February 28th till March 4th.

This year’s GDC is due to start in a couple of hours. Stay Tuned!

Seybold also added that there’s a lot of great content in store for us, involving titles such as Killzone 2, Uncharted 2, MAG and many more.

Sony is holding a press conference this Wednesday along with the start of GDC.

With Heavy Rain and Gran Turismo 5 only, Sony already have a very great lead, imagine if all the rumored ps3 games (LBP2, Infamous 2, Resistance 3, Motorstorm 3 etc.) really made it out this year!

If all the rumors circulating around the web are true, i fully agree with Patrick Seybold, 2010 will undoubtedly be one of ps3’s best years!

The free gaming event will be held in Dallas, Texas, and will feature a multitude of new tech demonstrations, announcements of upcoming games and tournaments VG247 reports.

The event has been dated for the 12-15th of August, and is to be held in the Hilton Anatole Hotel.

With demos of great games such as WET and Wolfenstein shown last year, we should be in for a treat.
