Formerly Xbox One exclusive, Crytek's action title hit Steam and GameStop today.

Crytek’s Ryse: Son of Rome is now available for the PC, retailing through Steam and GameStop for $39. Originally released alongside the Xbox One in November 2013, Ryse was originally hailed as a console exclusive before being announced for PC this year.

The PC version includes all previously released DLC, which means four content packs, and some new graphical options such as 1080p resolution and even 4K resolution support. The game apparently “takes full advantage of the platform’s power and offers players the chance to experience the Roman Empire like never before” according to Crytek.

In terms of gameplay, Ryse: Son of Rome was originally criticized for its repetitiveness and the sheer unimaginative nature of combat, which boiled down to multiple QTE events in every fight. Regardless, will you be picking it up for PC? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below and stay tuned for more information on the PC version.

The Romans return with 4K support.

Ryse: Son of Rome is coming to a PC near you this Fall thanks to the concerted efforts of Crytek and Deep Silver. The PC build of Ryse: Son of Rome (in a genius stroke of consumer appreciation) will come packaged with all of the DLC packages that have been released since the game launched on the Xbox One.

This means The Colosseum Pack which features character skins and arena maps, The Mars’ Chosen Pack which contains yet another character skin and four arena maps, the new Survival Mode; The Duel of Fate Pack which holds yet more character skins and arena maps. There’s also the Morituri Pack which has three new arena maps, two survival maps and five solo arena maps. Lastly, but by no means least is the Ruins Multiplayer Map and the Legionnaire’s Trust” sword which was originally packaged with the special edition of the game.

Director of Business Development, Carl Jones, at Crytek says “We are bringing the Ryse experience to PC, with 4K resolution support. 4K gaming is another leap in graphics quality for PC gamers and Ryse is the perfect showcase for what’s now possible in high-end PC games. We’ve given our team the opportunity to show what CRYENGINE can really achieve, without compromising quality, thanks to the incredible hardware available now to PC gamers. Ryse will be a benchmark PC graphics showcase this year and probably for a long time in future. Our community asked for a Ryse PC version, and we have the means and technology to deliver this title with the highest quality possible.”

Like mentioned above, 4K resolutions support is a huge leap forward in graphical aspects of video gaming. The massive resolution allows for an unparalleled level of detail and atmosphere. What are your thoughts on this announcement? Let us know in the comments section below.

4K resolution racing? Yes please, thank you very much.

The community funded and rather fun looking racing sim, Project CARS (which stands for Community Assisted Racing Simulator) that is currently in development by the folks over at Slightly Mad Studios has some absolutely glorious looking 4K footage online for all to see. It’s uncommon to see video game footage online at 108op, even more uncommon to see 1440p. But when it hits the staggering 4K mark, you best sit down and pay attention.

The Project CARS footage shows a race between various Ford Focus RS’s (there’s a Renault in there too somewhere) on what is presumably a course called Azure Coast. We get to see some nice panning shots of the action unfolding, a perfect inside line overtake at around the 1:04 mark and an awesome cockpit view scene where we get rammed. Given that Project Cars will support the Oculus Rift VR headset, this game has the potential to be something truly special indeed.

You can get your hands on Project Cars on Microsoft Windows,PlayStation 4, Xbox One in November 2014 and on Wii U and the Steam OS at some time in 2015.

The PC version of Titanfall gets even more eye-candy.

Respawn Entertainment’s Titanfall continues to evolve as Nvidia has announced that its Gameworks staff will be collaborating with the developer to implement new Nvidia-specific features to the PC version.

What can we look forward to? Temporal anti-aliasing (TXAA) for one, which willl combine MSAA, post processing and custom filters to reduce flickering and further smoothen out visuals. There will also be Horizon Based Ambient Occlusion+ (HBAO+) for more realistic shadows, support for 4K resolution displays and support for SLI multi-GPUs to further enhance the experience.

Titanfall on the PC is already a good step up over the Xbox One version due to its full HD resolution and near 60 FPS frame rate (depending on your graphics card, of course). How will it look in the coming months with all of Nvidia’s new updates for PC? We’ll find out and keep you posted. In the mean time, how are you finding the experience? Let us know in the comments.

There will also be lots of content for the Xbox One and PS4. Imagine that.

It’s always interesting to hear id Software’s John Carmack, who is also working at Oculus VR these days, talk about the future. This was the guy after all who helped grow and popularize the first person shooter genre, including developing a multiplayer-focused game years before the genre blew up with Battlefield 3 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. Speaking at a recent Nvidia event (transcribed by Eurogamer), Carmack talked about what we can possibly expect from technology in the coming years.

“Five years ahead, yeah, we can probably make credible comments about that. You’ll still be able to buy Xbox One or PS4 new five years from now – unquestionably. There will be tons of content developed for that.

“We’ll have 4K resolution displays on tablets and HMDs, and we’ll have another order of magnitude pretty straightforward on there with Moore’s law. GPUs are great at turning transistors into performance and we’ll have ten times the performance. It means that you can probably run that triple 4K display at double the frame-rate from one GPU. That starts looking pretty impressive.”

Some technologies, especially for displays and networking, were described as “technical freight trains” by Carmack and “going forward whether we’re paying attention to them or not”.

“There’s a trillion dollars in economy pushing these things so a lot of that’s going to keep going, and it’s going to be great to sort of be along for the ride and figuring the kind of interesting systems areas, where there’s a convergence of what becomes possible now, that people wanted before, as the sort of cornerstone of where the real innovation is going to happen.

“We can always turn the cranks on what we’ve already got and always get better, but the insightful things are when you notice something that you hadn’t even thought about and previously dismissed as impossible is now possible and orders of magnitude just sneak up on you like this.”

Predicting things has become much harder now than before though, since as Carmack states you “can’t wrap your head around these six or eight orders of magnitude” that will be occurring in the next few decades. The example of Tron was given, but that could apply to anything from five years ago as well. The next generation holds a lot of promise – we’ll see how the PS4 and Xbox One deliver on the same when they release this month.

Xbox One supports 3D and 4K Video Content

Microsoft spokesperson Larry Hryb (Major Nelson), officially confirmed that the next-generation Xbox console does support 3D and 4K resolution standards.

“Xbox One supports both 3D and 4K,” said Hryb during a live Q&A session with gamers via Yahoo.

4K is also known as 4K Ultra HD which is four-times the resolution of current ‘Full HD’ standards. 1920 x 1080 is currently considered ‘Full HD”. Meanwhile, 4K Ultra HD would be 3840 x 2160 which s a immense difference and the next level of High Definition TVs.

TVs that support 4K HD already exist out in the market, however; they’re extremely expensive and it will take a long time for 4K resolution to get adopted in new homes.

Sony’s PlayStation 4 also supports 4K resolution output for video but not games.

Major Nelson was a bit vague during his statement, but its safe to assume that the 4K resolution will be limited to video content only.

Let us know if you’re looking forward to watching your favorite movies or videos utilizing the 4K resolution TVs in the comments below.

Doesn't that look good and crisp? Yeah.

Toshiba has announced a 4K television which runs the likes of Dirt 3 and Skyrim and it looks impressive. The resolution is basically 3840 x 2160 pixels which is much more than what current 1080p TVs can handle– 1920×1080 pixels.

The demo was run on a Nvidia or AMD equivalent high performance card which outputs the said resolution. The Toshiba guy had mentioned that few developers are creating PC games that output the said resolution and showed an awesome demo of 4K resolution with Dirt 2.

“To experience the most insane video-gaming ever, get a 4K Quad-FHD screen from Toshiba and connect a powerful PC with a 4K-capable latest/fastest GPU such as ATI 7970 and Nvidia 680, you can then play many of the latest big high-end games that thus render the full 3840×2160 of the game at 30fps, it looks awesome.”

You can check out that video below.
