Boosted by the new PS3 model which increased sales up to 128%, Sony has revealed that the system has finally passed 5 million mark in the UK. The region is mostly an Xbox territory with the console having a 3 million lead over Sony’s system.

Great news nonetheless, as Feral Gara, managing director of SCEE in the UK, bragged about momentum. (Via MCV)

“It is fantastic that we passed the 5m mark. But most importantly to me is not the milestone itself, but the fact that there is momentum behind it. And with the new chassis, and the way the market is panning out this year,
PlayStation definitely has the momentum,” he told MCV.

“I am pleased with the talent we’ve got on board. You can actually feel the energy going through the business. These guys know that they have a lot to do to make sure the Christmas plans are sharp and focused, and they have come to them relatively late. So they are working at a hell of a pace.

“I can already feel a positive buzz that wasn’t there only a few weeks ago.”

Sony has also sent cakes to specific UK outlets–and boy, do they look delicious. Here’s one on the right which was sent to Eurogamer.

The main point for them is the success of the first game though; “That depends on how well the game sells in the West”.

Kitase has said that there are several points in the game he would like the chance to refine in a sequel, “In the past three years we worked both on the world and on the various systems. Creating these systems isn’t very glamorous and can frankly be a bit boring. If we could do a XIII-2, we could direct all our attention to the story and refine what we have already built.”

The pair also had the following to say on the chance of a Final Fantasy XV, “We do not know if there will be a XV. This depends a lot on the success of XIII. Also, it is difficult to pinpoint elements that are typical Final Fantasy.”

“They are mostly invisible: part of the DNA of the game, that everyone recognizes as typical Final Fantasy. But if there is a XV, I hope the way we wrote our characters carries over. We strived to create believable people of flesh and blood. They are not robots. And they are not super heroes. I hope this humanity is something we will see again.”

Final Fantasy XIII launched earlier this week, selling over 5 million units to date.
