The expansion will see you be able to control creatures of myth. It will release at the same time the base game will make its Steam debut.

The Total War series has slowly built up to being one of the biggest and best-selling strategy series of all time. The game has weaved back and forth between real world and grounded conflicts and pure fantasy. Of the latest entries in the series, A Total War Saga: Troy, stuck its toe in both. It covered the Trojan War of Greek lore, a conflict that is heavily debated as even really happening. Despite its possible fantastical nature, Creative Assembly aimed to create a still grounded approach. Well, it seems that is out the window a bit now with the first major expansion.

Today, the expansion called Mythos was announced with a trailer that you can see below. The trailer lays out that the expansion will bring forth actual mystical creatures into the game. While the base title did have nods to Greek mythology, they were often done in a grounded and ‘realistic’ way. This seems to be going more the way of pure fantasy. If you don’t want that however, there will also be a Historical mode that will keep things to an as accurate as possible historical context.

A Total War Saga: Troy is available now on PC via Epic Games Store, where it was downloaded quite a lot. Mythos will launch on September 2nd, which will be the same time the base game will come to Steam.

Regardless of its age, The Creative Assembly’s Total War series continues to be one of the most popular strategy franchises. In a recent announcement for the company’s new UK studio and motion capture facility, which grew by more than 20 percent in the last year, it was revealed that over 36 million standalone titles have been sold. Furthermore, the series sees over 1.5 million players each month.

The Total War series has seen a number of big releases over the past few years. Total War: Three Kingdoms was in the Platinum tier for Steam’s top new releases and best-selling titles for 2019. A Total War Saga: Troy launched exclusively for the Epic Games Store last year and saw 7.5 million players claim it for free within the first 24 hours.

Even more titles are coming soon with Total War: Rome Remastered launching on April 29th for PC. It offers 16 additional factions, 4K support and improved visuals while retailing for $29.99. Total War: Warhammer 3 is also in development with The Realm of Chaos and the Ruinous Powers being the key focus. It’s currently slated for late 2021 release on PC.

Yesterday, we got a new entry in Creative Assembly’s beloved Total War series with A Total War Saga: Troy. The game is one of the saga side games from the franchise that sees you playing through the part mystical, part grounded Trojan War. It also came with the unprecedented move with Sega giving the game away free of charge for the first 24 hours after launch. And well, hopefully it was a success for all parties involved, but at the very least a lot of people claimed it.

As reported by Eurogamer, the game was claimed by 7.5 million people during its free period on the Epic Games Store (which the game was released exclusively on).

“We were optimistic but we couldn’t have predicted this level of excitement,” Rob Bartholomew, chief product officer said. “It’s been incredible to work with Epic on giving this brand new release away for free. Now we get to welcome so many strategy players – new and old – to experience this incredible Saga. We’re very happy.”

We heard from the developer yesterday that the game had been downloaded over 1 million times, which was already impressive, but over 7 times as many people have the game in their account now, which is quite something.

A Total War Saga: Troy is no longer free, so you missed the boat there if you didn’t get to it in time, but it is still available on PC via the Epic Games Store. You can check out the requirements through here.

The Creative Assembly’s A Total War Saga: Troy released yesterday on the Epic Games Store. Unlike past titles, however, it’s completely free for the first 24 hours of release. The developer is now reporting on Twitter that it’s had one million downloads within the first hour of the giveaway.

This is pretty crazy, though one to wonder what kind of return it’s getting. The giveaway, along with the timed-exclusive deal with the Epic Games Store, was done to help grow the series’ audience. A Total War Saga: Troy will have DLC so perhaps revenues from that and the deal with Epic Games will cover costs in the long run.

In the meantime, anyone with an Epic Games account can claim the game for free. A Total War Saga: Troy is focused on the Trojan War as heroes like Achilles battle with the likes of Paris and Hector. Along with the return of duels, the strategy game features mythological units but presented in more realistic fashion.

Check out all the high-profile titles coming next month.

The infamous Fall/Holiday deluge of titles is nearly upon us, which is going to be even crazier this year with the Xbox Series X and PS5 launching, each with their respective exclusives. Of course, everyone knows that the real madness begins in August so even before all of that, we have plenty of big games to jump into over the next few weeks. From a highly anticipated port to a whole lot of classic returns, here are 10 games worth keeping an eye on next month.

Horizon Zero Dawn (PC)

Guerrilla Games’ Horizon Zero Dawn: Complete Edition is coming to PC on August 7th. It would have seemed highly unlikely, if not impossible, that any first-party PS4 exclusive would come to the platform but here we are. Following the exploits of Aloy in a post-apocalyptic future of mystery and Machines, Horizon Zero Dawn sees players exploring the ruins of a massive world. Hunt Corrupted Machines, discover more about the Old Ones or simply bask in the gorgeous visuals. The PC release includes a bevy of graphical options including unlocked frame rates, support for 4K and Ultrawide screens, a bench-marking tool and customizable controls. It even features dynamic foliage and improved reflections for that extra bit of polish. If you’re craving a stellar open world action RPG on PC, Horizon Zero Dawn: Complete Edition should suit your needs.

Microsoft Flight Simulator

Another franchise whose comeback seemed impossible years ago is Flight Simulator. With Asobo Studio of A Plague Tale: Innocence fame at the helm, Microsoft Flight Simulator is looking to make up for lost time. It allows players to fly anywhere in the world with over two million cities, about 37,000 airports (with 40 being handcrafted), and real-time weather and air-traffic data influencing the game. The sheer visual splendor is made possible with Azure AI, Bing Maps and the ACE engine, among other tools. Microsoft Flight Simulator is out on August 18th for PC.

EA Sports UFC 4

EA’s mixed martial arts fighting series is also making a comeback on August 14th for Xbox One and PS4. EA Sports UFC 4 features a number of new mechanics like Real Player Motion for revamped clinches and takedowns along with new systems for submissions and ground and pound. Ultimate Team mode is gone but Career Mode has seen revamps as players “evolve” their fighters with five disciplines, choosing friends and rivals, and earning over 1600 new gear pieces. If multiplayer is your thing, new Blitz Battles offer rapid-fire tournaments with rotating rule sets and even lets heavyweight take on flyweights. Truly fair and balanced.

Madden NFL 21

It’s yet another year for Madden with Madden NFL 21 out on August 28th for Xbox One, PS4 and PC (with PS5, Stadia and Xbox Series X versions out in Q4 2020). EA Tiburon has promoted features thus far like the stick skill ball-carrier system, fresh pass rush moves and user-controlled celebrations. Face of the Franchise: Rise to Fame is more of a journey to the Hall of Fame this time and Madden Ultimate Team is also coming back (for better or worse) along with X-Factor abilities. There doesn’t seem to be too much hype but hey, at least you have a year to upgrade from the Xbox One and PS4 to Xbox Series X and PS5 versions. That’s something.

Risk of Rain 2

Hopoo Games’ Risk of Rain 2 will finally exit early access on August 11th, launching first for PC and coming to consoles later. It’s been quite the ride for the roguelite, which surprise-launched for Steam Early Access last year and has since offered new Survivors, stages, bosses and skill variants over time. The 1.0 update promises even more with a new Survivor, the Captain; a new stage on the Moon; and of course, the final boss. One can also expect new items and skill variants along with a server browser for locating custom games.

Project CARS 3

In the midst of great racing titles like F1 2020 and upcoming blockbusters like DiRT 5 and Gran Turismo 7, Slightly Mad Studios’ Project CARS 3 is in an interesting position. Arriving on August 28th for Xbox One, PS4 and PC, it promises a revamped Career Mode with 10 car classes, over 200 cars and more than 140 tracks across the world. Graphics hounds can expect 12K resolution along with “best-in-class VR support”. Newcomers, on the other hand, are expected to have an easier time with customizable assists. If you need a racing sim to tide you over before the other big names arrive, Project CARS 3 might be worth looking into.

Surgeon Simulator 2

Bossa Studios’ Surgeon Simulator seemed ripe for a sequel and while it’s taken seven years, Surgeon Simulator 2 is nearly here. Launching on PC via the Epic Games Store on August 28th, it features a new cast of characters and even more insane hijinks. Along with conducting all manner of operations on Bob, players can leverage the new Creation Mode for custom game modes, new levels and much more, which can then be shared online. With four-player co-op support, Surgeon Simulator 2 looks to be a fun time all-around.

Wasteland 3

InXile Entertainment’s epic sequel has quite the scope, taking place in post-apocalyptic Colorado and featuring numerous factions, each with their own agenda. Following the demise of Team November, you play as the last surviving Ranger and must survive in the wasteland. This means making choices on who to side with, which quests to pursue and most importantly, who to shoot. Turn-based combat makes a return but there’s also co-op support for another player to join. With a reported playtime of over 50 hours and multiple endings, Wasteland 3 is looking to be worth the wait when it finally launches on August 28th for Xbox One, PS4 and PC.

A Total War Saga: Troy

The Creative Assembly’s “Saga” games are typically smaller in scale, focusing on a specific conflict in history. In this case, it’s the Trojan War as the forces of Troy battle Mycenaean Greece. But you’ll still build up an empire, employ diplomacy, enter duels and wage war with eight different heroes like Achilles. Mythic figures like the Minotaur also appear, though they’re more realistically depicted as part of the whole “Truth Behind the Myth” approach. We’ll find out if it works or not when A Total War Saga: Troy releases on August 13th for PC via the Epic Games Store. The game will be free on the storefront for 24 hours after launch.

Serious Sam 4

More comebacks are in store as Sam “Serious” Stone returns and while not necessarily ripping and tearing his way through Hell, he will be killing lots and lots of aliens. These include headless Kamikazes, Werebulls, Kleers and new foes like the Belcher, Zealot and Processed. Along with the double barrel shotgun and mini-gun, you also get a chainsaw launcher, a “laser beam of death” and the cannon. Thousands of enemies will swarm the player at once over main missions and side-quests but there’s four player co-op to help even the odds. Serious Sam 4 is out in August for PC and Stadia with PS4 and Xbox One versions coming next year.

Next month, it will once again be time for the Total War series to transport us to a sort of, kind of historical setting for huge battles with A Total War Saga: Troy. And now we know what kind of PC you’ll need to run it.

As is often the case with the franchise, you won’t needed a huge rig to play the game. Minimum requirements see Intel Core 2 Duo or Intel i7 8550U with 4GB of RAM (oddly, Sega did not list the AMD equivalent for minimum requirements) and Nvidia GTX 460, AMD Radeon HD 5770 and Intel UHD Graphics 620. Recommended sees Intel i5-6600 or AMD Ryzen 5 2600X with 8GB of RAM and Nvidia GTX 970 or AMD Radeon R9 270X. Both require 26GB of storage. You can see the game’s store listing through here.

The king of Sparta is a diplomatic fellow.

The Total War franchise has taken us a lot of places, both based in reality and fiction. The latest entry in the series, A Total War Saga: Troy, looks to be a mix of both. It will be set against the backdrop of the Trojan War, an event that may or may not have happened. Similarly, the game mixes real life troops with pseudo-mythological ones. Now we get details on one of the biggest figures of the story, as well as a new mechanic.

Creative Assembly released a video based around showing off the campaign of Menelaus, the king of Sparta who played a key role in the alleged Trojan War. While you may be used to the stereotype of Spartans as battle hungry warriors, Menelaus is actually more about diplomacy and using his allies in strategic ways to slowly conquer. The video also shows off a new mechanic, Divine Will, where you chose a deity to follow, which will open up the more mystic-based units for your advantage as well help with various tasks such as resource management. Check it out below.

A Total Way Saga: Troy will release on August 13th for PC, where it will be free for the first 24 hours on the Epic Games Store. If you want more, you can check out the trailer detailing the games battles, as well as its unique trade system.

Trade resources and regions in strategic ways.

This year will see a new entry in the beloved RTS series by Sega and Creative Assembly, A Total War Saga: Troy. The game will take you to ancient Greece, in one of the most timeless tales of a war and city that may have never existed. We’ve seen highlights of how battle will go in this new title, and now it’s time for something else: trade.

As you’d expect from something like this, trade is also an essential tool in your long term plans. Of course, you can trade all manner of resources like food, wood, stone, etc., but in Troy you will actually be able to trade entire regions. As you’d imagine, this won’t be as simple as trading for some bronze, and will require you to be intimidating enough to essentially make your trading partner think they have no choice. If you can pull it off though, you can reshape the battle in significant ways. You can see the full breakdown of it in the video below.

The Creative Assembly’s A Total War Saga: Troy made headlines recently due to it launching for the Epic Games Store this year. In a new interview with senior game design Milcho Vasilev, we learn more about the various changes that can be expected. And of course, it wouldn’t be a Total War video without some big battles.

Inspired by Homer’s The Iliad and encompassing the Trojan War, the strategy title sees the forces of Mycenaean Greece and Troy battling it out. Mythological units can also be utilized though A Total War Saga: Troy handles them a bit differently – the Minotaur, for example, is more of a large soldier with a bull head that strikes fear into foes. It’s an intriguing twist on traditional myths.

There are also new terrain types, which should lead to new strategies during battles. A Total War Saga: Troy releases on August 13th for PC. It will be a timed exclusive for one year on the Epic Games Store. You can also pick up the game for free – yes, free – within the first 24 hours of its launch. Stay tuned for more details in the coming months.
